Peer Review Process

The editorial office of EJNM and the subject editors check each submitted manuscript for general quality, suitability, and whether it conforms to the journal guidelines. Submissions that do not comply with the journal guidelines will be returned to the author (corresponding author) for correction before being considered for publication. All manuscripts are checked by the editorial office for plagiarism using the iThenticate through the Crossref Similarity Check service. If the manuscript is found suitable and acceptable in principle, it will be sent out for a double-blind review. All reviewers treat the manuscript with the strictest confidentiality and must declare any conflicts of interest. Comments and suggestions from the reviewers are conveyed to the corresponding author. Revised manuscripts are subject to further review by the original reviewers and the responsible subject editors. The final decision as to acceptance or rejection lies with the Editor, with advice from the journal editorial board. The corresponding author will be advised of the final decision; acceptance or rejection of the manuscript, in a formal letter.

Ethical Considerations

Author(s) are expected to mention the approval of regional, national, institutional, or independent Ethics Committee or Scientific Committee, obtaining assent for children aged over seven years participating in the trial.  A relevant statement on ethics committee permission and ethical practices must be included in all research articles under the methods section. All manuscripts reporting the results of an experimental investigation involving human subjects should include a statement confirming that informed consent was obtained from each subject or subject’s guardian, after approval of the experimental protocol by a local human ethics committee. For prospective studies involving human investigations, authors are expected to have obtained the approval of regional, national, institutional, or independent Ethics Committee, in addition to obtaining the subjects' consent to participate in the study.  All studies involving human experiments should be performed only in accordance with the ethical standards provided by the responsible committee of the institution and in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki for Ethical Principles for Medical Research Involving Human Subject (revised in 2013). The journal will not consider any paper which is ethically unacceptable. The journal might ask for a copy of ethics approval and/or a copy of the consent form, if relevant. Clinical trials should be registered in a public trials registry in order to be considered for publication. Authors are recommended to register in one of the clinical trials registries certified by ICMJE.

Plagiarism Policy

Submitted manuscripts must be original works, unpublished papers, and not pending publication elsewhere. Based on the definition of plagiarism by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), “when somebody presents the work of others (data, words, or theories) as if they were his/her own and without proper acknowledgement,"  the editorial team of the journal is strictly against any unethical act of copying or plagiarism in any form. Once a manuscript is submitted to the journal, the editorial office conducts a preliminary check for plagiarism using the iThenticate software through the Crossref Similarity Check service. At any stage of the publication process, if plagiarized content is detected, the author will be asked to revise the manuscript and make the changes based on the citation of the original source. Some aspects are excluded at the time of conducting a plagiarism check, such as bibliographies, quotes, phrases, mathematical formulas, and names of agencies, organizations, institutions, hospitals, universities, departments, etc. In severe cases of plagiarism, which is plagiarized when it involves reusing the original results or ideas presented in another publication, the manuscript will be rejected, and all authors will be subject to the same penalty and will be suspended from submitting further articles for at least one year.

Authorship

Authorship must be based on having substantial contributions to conception and design, acquisition of data, or analysis and interpretation of data, drafting the article or revising it critically, and final approval of the version to be published. All contributors who do not meet the criteria for authorship should be listed in an acknowledgments section at the end of the article.

All authors must give their signed consent for publication in a pledge form, which should accompany the manuscript. The form contains the following statements:

  • I/we certify that the manuscript does not contain any material which would violate any copyright or other personal proprietary right of any person or entity.
  • I/we certify that the manuscript will not be submitted to other journals as long as it is in the process of evaluation and publishing in the EJNM.
